The alligator has existed for millions of years and is connected to the earth and the ancient knowledge that it holds. In many Native American traditions, the alligator is a symbol of strength, protection, rebirth and wisdom.
Much like a rabbit’s foot, an alligator foot, toe, claw or bone is often used as a good luck charm when gambling or in games of chance. In the Southern United States, African slaves believed that alligators had magical powers and that by keeping a part of them close by, one can harness that power and use it for personal gain.
When an alligator bites, it rarely lets go. This power to “hold onto” things signifies the power to hold onto things in life such as money, love and good fortune. Alligator teeth, feet, etc. are often anointed in oils such as money oil, quick cash oil, prosperity oil or good luck oil and carry them close in Gris Gris or mojo bags. I personally keep an herb filled, anointed alligator tooth in my wallet at all times.
In my bone reading set, the alligator toe often means that the querent will have luck in finances, but the meaning can change depending on which direction the toe is facing and what other pieces are touching it.
